Replace Several Missing Teeth

When multiple teeth are missing, implants can support individual crowns or a connected bridge. You do not always need one implant per missing tooth; strategically placed implants safely restore full function.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions our patients ask most before their implant consultation.

Many adults can be assessed for implants, but suitability is not based on age alone. The dentist considers medical conditions, medications, smoking or vaping, gum stability, decay, oral hygiene, bone, bite forces and your ability to attend maintenance. Active disease may need treatment first. If an implant is not advisable, a tooth-supported bridge or removable option can still be discussed.

Local anaesthesia is commonly used to numb the treatment area, and the team checks your comfort throughout. Tenderness, swelling, bruising or limited chewing can occur during early recovery; the extent varies with the procedure. You will receive individual aftercare and medication instructions from the treating dentist. Additional comfort or sedation options require medical assessment.

The timeline depends on whether teeth need extraction, whether grafting is required, implant stability, tissue healing and the type of final restoration. Some stages can be combined, while others need healing between surgery and the definitive crown or bridge. A provisional tooth may be possible, but it is not guaranteed. Your written plan should identify each visit, the review schedule and the expected local stay.

Not every patient needs a graft. It may be recommended when the ridge is too narrow or low for the planned implant, when contour support is needed or when nearby anatomy limits placement. A clinical examination and appropriate imaging guide the decision. Grafting can be completed before or at implant placement in selected cases and can add treatment stages and healing time.

Implants and their restorations can function for many years, but no lifetime result can be promised. Gum inflammation, bone loss, smoking, uncontrolled medical risks, grinding, an unsuitable bite or inadequate cleaning can affect the implant. The crown, screws, bridge or provisional materials can also wear or need repair. Daily care and regular professional reviews are part of treatment, not optional extras.
